Template Monster Signs A New Agreement!

September 19th, 2007 in News, Templates

Template Monster completes a milestone agreement with Getty Images! This is a very important agreement for Template Monster customers. This agreement with Getty Images makes the array of quality images that is available for our designs much greater.

Premium images are necessary to create the best designs. The quality and availability of those images is of the utmost importance in maintaining top level and competitive designs. The creators, buyers and sellers of these images have legal rights - so that getting and using the best pictures can be prohibitively expensive. Getting the best photo images while maintaining the most competitive price structure is the name of the game in design production and sales.

Most of our dedicated customers know that Template Monster gained a huge solution by aligning ourselves in partnership with Fotolia.com not long ago. This partnership gives to our customers the complete lifetime rights to use the images as long as they are in a design purchased from Template Monster.

Today Template Monster is one of the few companies that use only licensed images, and we invest a lot of money into the solid partnerships that provide those images. If your template was found to contain a “stolen” picture you would be the first person to be addressed by the real owners of that image. We will not tolerate this risk for our clients.

We have just signed a similar agreement with Getty Images - the world leader in providing imagery collections. With partnerships like this Template Monster always makes big news! You will have rights to use the Getty pictures as long as you use the designs provided by us. Enjoy! No thanks necessary, we are happy to share the fortune.

  1. I love the templates you put out there. One issue: lack of diversity. The people are mostly White.

  2. Wow, its great news. Template monster’s and Getty images partnershipt will must come up with great product. Best of luck.

  3. Just try not to violate thousands of federal copyrights this time around.

  4. So, can those of us who have received letters from Getty demanding thousands of dollars in compensation because we bought and used one of your templates in good faith toss those letters away? Nice of you to not mention this little detail in your blog post. And will you be reimbursing your past customers for legal fees spent responding to Getty’s demands? Your little 40-something dollar web template turned out to be far more expensive than advertised.

I’m guessing there will be no public response to this, IF this comment even makes it on your website.

  5. What you have said here about our lack of support is not quite the way it is in fact. By the way this response is totally public as you see.

First of all we never leave our clients alone with the problems they are facing, this is one of the most important parts of our mission and statement. Each time we learned about our clients’ legal problems with content using we were the ones to have it all taken care of, we always settle and adjust any misunderstandings our clients’ may have. The only problem here is that our clients do not always let us know of cases like this.

And the reason of these problems is the fact that we obtain the designs from a lot of freelance designers. It is obvious that we are not able to track all of the content they provide in their work, it would take too much time. From now on this issue is settled.

In case you have any unsolved legal problems that deal with the templates content with Getty Inc. (or other legal bodies) please let us know of those in order for us to be able to help you. Feel free to write your mail to me directly (alex.flow|at|templatemonster.com) and explain what your problem is.

  6. Okay, I appreciate that, and the fact that you let my comment stay up and did not edit it in any way. I will email you directly, as we have received several demand letters from Getty for payment for the use of images that were embedded in a template I bought from you several years ago. Our attorney has been in communication with them and we have not reached a resolution as yet. If TemplateMonster can be of assistance, no one will be happer than I.

It will be a day or two before I write you as I have a big deadline at work this week (I should in fact be working on that right now). But I will be inb touch, and thank you for your message here.

  7. Template monster has been such a key player in the market to allow people with moderate budgets access to great designs. It is really nice to see that you guys are working with copyright and property owners to do the right thing as well as protect your customers.

Keep up the good work, there are plenty of us that appreciate the work you are doing.

  8. I believe you should also look into tie-ups with cheaper stock images. I had heard about a site where good images are available for as low as 1 USD but have forgot the link. Ofcourse it may not be as huge as Getty but it did have quite a variety I must say.

I would be obliged if I could see people from Middle East and India on the templates that would help me sell more templates.

  9. AMR, have you had a resolution to the demands for payment from Getty Images? Who would be resposible in your case; the website owner or the developer/Supplier? Surely they can’t demand payment if you didn’t know?

  10. Just try not to violate thousand of federal copyrights this time around.

  11. alex,

we spoke to you and your attorney months ago and got no help from you. We had to pay masterfile 900 to settle their lawsuit when we used one of your templates. I’ll send you an email with the details and wait for your reimbursement.

  12. gettyvictim12 Says:

I was a victim of Template Monster and Getty Images. It started in January 2007 when I received a demand letter from Getty for the use of an image included with a TM template. I contacted TM right away and removed the image. The only advice I received from TM was to ask for proof of ownership - a delay tactic - and to otherwise ignore the letters. Meanwhile 9 months of hell later, Getty turned me over to collection for their settlement demand fees. Fortunately, the timing was just right because TM and Getty created a settlement agreement and I received a refund on the demand fees I did pay. It is poor business practice on TM’s part to sell templates with images they had no right to include from freelance designers. TM can blame freelance designers all they want, but in the end it was the consumers who got the raw end of the deal. TM and Getty Images lost a potential customer as I will never be able to trust them or their products again. Now, I take all of my own pictures.
