Two New Products from Template Monster!

We at TemplateMonster.com know that we must challenge ourselves to remain atop the web templates market. Hence, our launch of two new product types on the same day! These products are the greatly anticipated Joomla! And Mambo CMS Templates. Why on the same day – you will ask? Simple – we were able to bring both of these projects to completion at the same time – of which we are very proud and we want to show off our new products now, together!

By launching both of our new product lines on the same day we can emphasize the products similarity, importance and general impact on the templates market. They are and on the fact that they are equally important and valuable. These Joomla! and Mambo CMS Templates will prove to be very valuable for website owners who want to take care of their own content with simple WYSWIG editing for fast, effective and inexpensive content management.

If you don’t know what the Mambo and Joomla! CMS systems are, here’s a very good set of tips: 1) they have both remained in the Top 5 CMS systems for a couple of years now; 2) they both have very comfortable templates and skins systems; 3) there are many, many modules and functionality components for different purposes available (merchant and eCommerce systems, forum platform and much more). See the Joomla and Mambo Templates presentations for more details on these two award-winning CMS systems. Naturally, the templates designed for both of these systems at TemplateMonster are of the most premium design.

I am so happy that you have decided to make Joomla! templates. On the face, they look nice. Unfortunately, to compete with the other template guys, like rockettheme.com (just one of many), you’re going to have to give us the same functionality and better, or lower the price. The cost of one TM Joomla template can buy you a 3-month subscription at rockettheme with access to ALL the templates. To improve the functionality and thereby the value, you need to:
      1. Include how many module positions there are and a picture of where they are located
      2. Include the JS and CSS driven menu effects that are predominate on your competitors’ templates
      3. Include more than ONE preset style – most Joomla templates have between 3-50
      4. Have some templates with slideshows and/or rotating images using flash or JS
      5. Drop down menus using CSS or JS

The above are just a few things that fall under required if you want to compete. I was really hoping the TM would put out joomla templates that would make the competition envious, but it would appear they have nothing to worry about, in price or in features. And that’s too bad.

      John,
Thanks a lot for your suggestions, we really appreciate your view. And we will submit those suggestion to our developers, that would be very useful for them.
      Thanks again.

I would strongly suggest you rethink your pricing because if your templates have the joomla code, this violates OpenSource… the sites that charge for templates are charging for access to an area where the templates are offered, their prices do not apply to the templates themselves. This has become a big issue with joomla components and other extensions being billed to the end user.

    • Joey

by the way…just thought I would post this part showing on one of your templates:

      © 2007 Joomla_17377
Joomla! is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL License.

I see the word “Free” there…

    • Dave

@ Joey: TM’s not breaking any open-source licence. In fact, they’ve taken it one step further (I’m referring to your “I see the word FREE” comment)… There is nothing in the Joomla or Mambo licence that prevents TM from selling templates that work with it – several outfits already do that and have been for years, and if you read the monstrous topics on the subject you’d know that templates are exempt from their little “argument” specifically because there is so little “derivative” code – if any. Granted, the Joomla/Mambo templates here leave a bit to be desired, but it’s a brand-new area and I am sure they’ll improve with time. Nothing is being done wrong by promoting *Joomla/Mambo* as free software, because it *IS* free software. It’s just the templates that aren’t, and TM is fully within their rights as a developer-advocate to do what they are doing. To anyone not trying to split hairs, with this new line of templates TM is promoting Joomla and Mambo, and that is not a bad thing.

@ James: It’s great to see that the “powers that be” monitor the comments. I can see TM giving the developers that have been promoting Mambo/Joomla templates a run for their money. Nothing wrong with competition (heck, several have been converting TM templates for use with these CMS’s for years! It’s about time y’all got onto the bandwagon! LOL) Best of luck to all of you.

      Congratulations with your new product!

Joomla is used very often in the Netherlands (the country where I live) and I’m sure I will have extra sales with this product. Maybe you should split the categories Joomla and Mambo (the communities doesn’t like each other very much)

      Thanks!

Congratulations for starting new products. I know you guys will be the best in the market for joomla and mambo designs.

Great, I wish you all the best. You will lead in this as well.

    • http://www.templatemonster.com Alex

      Dave,
You’re absolutely right about Joomla! license not prohibiting anyone (including TemplateMonster) from selling templates for this CMS. The CMS platfrom itself is totally free and TemplateMonster doesn’t charge you for the CMS engine. It’s the design that we charge you for. After all, TM is all about design and we never claim ourselves to be CMS developers (except for the Dynamic Flash Photo Galleries platform that is basically a CMS developed by us independently).

Besides, Dave’s also right about our contribution to Joomla/Mambo projects. TemplateMonster is a project that enjoys hundreds of thousands visitors monthly which means that we generate a tremendous positive promotion to the Open Source projects that we mention.

Congratulations to the TeaM! It is really wonderful news as a lot of my clients are already using either Mambo or Joomla and would be happy to see the new templates from Template Monster.

I repeat my earlier request to feature models/people from India and UAE in your templates that will help me target local clients here.

      Best Regards,
      Mustafa Kamaal

      Template monster, Great step forward!
You guys have always shown great designs over the years, and being a Joomla developer myself I have been awaiting the day when you finally took the plunge to launch what I believe is growing to be one of the best open source project around!
Yes the prices are high for the product at the moment BUT with the right future developers on board with you maybe that may warrant those prices!
