What in the World is Happening to the World of Hosting?

August 10th, 2009 in News, Reviews, Sponsorship

Captain Revelation (as well as ourselves) has no rest since last Friday when we’ve discovered that so many of world’s top hosting companies neglect the importance of a website design. Think about it for a second: the companies providing websites and fighting for customers actually ignore their own corporate websites. Yeah, that is really something a design company like TemplateMonster may be worried about.

Take a look at a couple of hosting companies we are sure you all have heard of:

BlueHost.com

bluehost

We don’t mean to be offensive, but this one kinda looks like these postcard-style websites popular back in late 1990s. And it seems to be optimized for what - 640 by 480 pixels screen resolution? In fact this design hasn’t been updated since 2003 - that’s a long time people! Time to do something about it!

This one looks like a Christmas tree to us. It’s now that old though, that’s a good thing about it. However this kind of design approach does harm the functionality - it’s hard to navigate all these blocks.

HostGator.com

hostgator

Ok, we admit it - several years ago we’ve designed a website for HostGator. But the current design is not exactly what we’ve made (see our old version below - even this old version should have been updated by now). We understand that with the course of time the design should be gradually updated but these changes have to be made at least for good!

That’s one (or three) sad picture, isn’t it? I mean these are really the kick-ass hosting companies with tons and tons of customers. Does anybody know the reason for this kind of design? Because we don’t know…

AND - because we don’t know - right now from this post we are desperately screaming: HostGator, 1and1, BlueHost (especially BlueHost) and any other big hosting company that obviously doesn’t know any designers, if you are reading this right now - please have mercy on us and allow us to design a good websites for you! We are even ready to do that free of charge, just for the sake of your own customers. So please be wise and kindly accept this offer (contact us: marketing [at] templatemonster [dot] com).

  1. If they don’t take your offer of a free design…I will!

That is very generous of you guys.

  2. They offer hosting services so cheap that they didn’t have any budget for design :)

TM, you did great with the free templates like the business template. Maybe you can create a free CSS template resource instead of spending time on these hosting companies.

  3. … and give Ryan a free template too, he needs one to get listed at Google :D

  4. Ryan, I’m afraid we will not be able to redesign your website. Well, at least because this is not a hosting website and your website design is not that bad :-) Try using one of our free templates - why not, they’re free after all!

  5. Olaf, thanks for suggestion and a good thought on what could be a reason for ugly hosting designs. Launching free CSS templates resource is way less fun than redesigning hosting websites :-)

  6. Ahhh I always thought you guys owned Hostgator.com - We used a hybrid of one of your templates years ago as well. PS Olaf that’s funny ;)
