Some people say that every assignment starts from an idea, glad to disappoint you, everything starts from a cup of hot black coffee. Do you remember the movie Coffee and Cigarettes? People were sitting in a cafe and were having small talks diluted with hot black liquid. Same thing with us, copywriters - no talks, no works until the liven energy of this substance enters our guts. For my part, any type of copywriter work is associated with specific recipe of this drink. Feels like I'm a text-writing-coffee-junkie. on Google+.

Jigoshop, the worst fork of Woo-Commerce? Woo-Commerce have everything Jigoshop have, but a lot more. Don’t understood this decision from TemplateMonster.

Jigoshop don’t have HTML E-mail (payed extension just wraps html tags), don’t have advanced features for products, like Grouped Products, don’t have discount by quantity, don’t have code prepared for translation, etc.

Go for Woo Commerce, and forget Jigoshop that it’s simplicity will take you a lot of time realizing that he can’t do nothing more than basic things.

Hi Albert – I just wanted to correct a few things which are incorrect in your comment.

Jigoshop was the original code, which was forked by WooCommerce. Not only have both companies written about it, but you’ll see that the WooCommerce code correctly credits the Jigoshop base for it.

Secondly, there have been several comparisons between WooCommerce and Jigoshop, and pretty much all have concluded that there are some differentiations in the extensions available etc, but we’re broadly on a par in terms of what we both offer, even though both companies do it slightly differently – certainly we not only have code prepared for translation with 16 language files included, but we’re also compatible with a dedicated WPML extension for example.

We also offer Grouped Products, and ways to offer Discounts for Coupons, Quantities, or indeed by member group etc, so I’m not sure whether you’d checked out Jigoshop recently?

Speaking as part of the Jigoshop team, all the eCommerce products out there for WordPress have different strengths and weaknesses, but there’s little Jigoshop can’t do in comparison to the other offerings.

And as part of the Jigoshop team, it’s great that Template Monster and other design companies choose to create great products which work with Jigoshop, and we look forward to continuing to support them in the future

Most of the benefits that Alberto was describing so heatedly are insufficient ones. If we’d started comparing these two plugins, first thing we’ll see is that Jigoshop is way more compact and fast, it’s code is written much better making it “subject-oriented”. Jigoshop code is licensed under GPL and it is meant to be forked. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with WooThemes forking this code. Anyone can. It’s one of the most important parts of the GPL. WooThemes offered to buy the Jigoshop copyright and take over the project as a courtesy. They did not legally have to do that. There is no sense to start a fuss around these two.

P.S. All features Woo has make it purely unstable under the heavy loads, when Jigoshop “stoically endures all the burdens”.

            Hi Alex,
Cheers for the reply – and I wasn’t intending to start the whole GPL/Forking debate again, as it’s water well under the bridge now, and yes, inherent in the GPL license is the fact anyone can fork anything.

Also interested in your view on the different approaches – we’ve certainly been keen to focus on keeping Jigoshop clean, fast and reliable for the core. It’s great to see the work of the Jigoshop developers being recognised!
