Web Design Beginner Shares His Case Study on Working with TemplateMonster’s Themes

We have reached Ken Choong, a business owner from Malaysia who has never tried his hand at coding. However, he didn't give up his efforts and decided to launch his own eCommerce site based on a ready-made template. Wonder if he managed to launch his first site? Welcome to the interview.

TemplateMonster: Tell us a couple of words about yourself. How many sites have you already launched? Was this was your first experience of the site creation?

Nicholas Diaz: My name is Ken. I am a small business owner. We sell shoes, clothes, watches and so on. So running a website is important to us. Currently we have launched 4 sites:

I still remember the first time I wanted to create a website. I had totally no idea on how to do this. I didn't know anything about the programming language, but I really wanted to create a website that would look grand and beautiful. That's why I found TemplateMonster, and it helped me a lot.

TemplateMonster: Tell us about your projects? What products/services do you provide? What is your audience?

Nicholas Diaz: As I said earlier, we sell t-shirts, watches and shoes. 1 particular type of product is offered on a single website. For example, www.awesometshirts.xyz is only selling t-shirt and so on. Our audience is the 18-34 age group from 2 different countries, which are Malaysia and Singapore.

TemplateMonster: What templates did you purchase? What were the key factors that influenced your decision-making?

Nicholas Diaz: Recently I brought a theme number 55574, which I liked the most. I used it to launch this website - www.animesan.xyz. The reason I chose this theme is that it is simple, has a very elegant design and is easy to customize. The most important factor that take place in my decision making was the design because I needed to know whether I can customize to fit my product.

TemplateMonster: What features of the chosen templates do you value the most? What should be changed/enhanced?

Nicholas Diaz: I think the thing which is of the greatest value to me is the payment gateway system. It helps us a lot to open new markets in different currencies from different countries. PayPal helps us a lot to achieve that.

TemplateMonster: What tools do you use to power up your site's back-end?

Nicholas Diaz: I use a lot of WordPress plugins. For example, I use AfterShip WordPress plugin to update the shipment status, so the customers can track their shipment on our website. I also use Jetpack plugin to track how many people visit our site. It's great that WordPress has a lot of plugins to help you get the functions that you want.

TemplateMonster: How much time did it take you to create and make your site live? What aspect of the site's creation was the most time-consuming for you (customization of the theme, content editing/creation, etc.)?

Nicholas Diaz: I still remember when we launched this site - www.animesan.xyz, which is based on the theme #55574. It took us about 3-5 day to bring it live. The most time consuming part was the product hosting. We have about 3000 different products, so it took us pretty a lot of time to upload them all to the site. Content editing and the rest of the theme's adjustment stuff was quite easy.
