Recently TemplateMonster has made a public opinion survey among its loyal Flash audience – those were mainly customers who bought multiple Flash templates but – oddly enough – didn’t purchase any FlashMoto templates. That useful inquiry resulted in some interesting things we didn’t quite expect to come upon. That’s why now, with the current blog entry, we’ll try to make the things clear and debunk the myths about FlashMoto CMS as being horribly complex. That’s a sheer nonsense in fact!
Ok, here are things that to some extent bother our dearest customers:
Myth # 1: The product is rather complicated to use.
Supposedly, there are some fears that Flash developers and end users will not be able to sort things out and therefore they do not buy FlashMoto templates. That’s a common stereotype about all innovative products when owing to their novelty they seem to be complex in application. In fact, those customers to buy our FlashMoto CMS Templates assert that these products are incredibly easy to work with.
When I first noticed the Flash CMS Websites on Template Monster I thought “WOW that is for me”. Before I purchased the template there was a simulated trial of the product provided and after having a solid play with the simulator I realized that editing a FlashMoto CMS Template wasn’t going be too hard at all and I went about purchasing the template. I will add that I had absolutely minimal experience in web site editing. Having said that, when I downloaded the template and worked out how to upload it to my host (thanks to the Template Help Team at Flash CMS of whom are fantastic), it was nothing but a breeze from then on. I changed the template quite a few times. Initially I just edited and added a few things and then I realized how much more I could do. The CMS Template is almost limitless as to what you can do and for beginners, you will find it extremely easy to pick up the ease of using the template control panel. My website is due for a bit of an update at the moment..so keep an eye on this space for the next change that I make to my FlashMoto CMS Template.

Myth #2: the price for FlashMoto Templates is way too high.
Recently we have stumbled across a very interesting article My Thoughts on the Future of Flash by Flash developer Grant Skinner (that’s really a great atricle by the way, Grant you totally rock!). So anyways Mr. Skinner gave what we thinks is a rather unusual in its clarity and very cogent point of view concerning the situation with Flash technology and its rivals. You know, those are all simple things but after reading it all you really see that there’s actually no war between Flash and HTML5, currently there’s just not enough things we know to judge what’s better. The best thing Mr. Skinner mentioned was that each technology will get what it deserves – that’s where we as a community step in. If Technology A is better than Technology B, the community will abandon what’s worse and stick with what they consider to be the best choice.
But anyways, all this huge discussion about pros and cons of the two rather different technologies (Flash and HTML5) has both positive and negative sides. Due to the “hyper’ effect of social media this topic has achieved a status of a massive technology trend but it is clear that this PR campaign has some hidden peculiarities and targeted character (especially for the fans of the ‘iRandom-Macros’ products). The current situation shows that Flash has too many advantages which makes it hard to beat despite all those noble achievements of HTML5. So let’s now stop guessing and for a moment take a look at what really is going on out there, because reality is now which makes it stronger than any predictions.
The Flash market share is the most important argument (again, you can’t argue the reality of numbers). According to the Millward Brown survey conducted in December 2009 Flash content reaches 99% of Internet viewers (while HTML5 is only being supported by some 44% of browsers – not to mention the actual meager reach of Internet audience – basically there’s almost no HTML5 content so far).
As we have mentioned before, the Adobe Creative Suite will be released on April 12th and of course along with Photoshop CS5 we will see the latest version of Flash software – also marked CS5 (DUH!). There is no doubt that this software must be something really awesome as well as the highly-anticipated Photoshop. We’ve already reviewed the new features of Photoshop CS5 and everything looks kinda okay but most of our community has agreed that it’s more like an update to CS4 and buying CS5 as a standalone product looks at least irrational because of the price. So now the reasonable question to ask is will Flash CS5 really worth being paid for? Will we see the new development approach (because in case of Photoshop this very development approach is pretty much a deal breaker).
Plus, we all know the story of Photoshop CS4 updates that are twice cheaper than the new package. Also one of the most intriguing things about this release is that there was no beta release and actually there are no reasons for us to say for sure how good this new software is. This all is quite confusing, isn’t it? The only way to know the answer is to actually wait for the launch but hey, we’re Flash geeks here and we want answers now! That is why let’s try to review and analyse the new features of Adobe Flash CS 5 Viper (yeah, it’s actually called Viper, don’t ask us why).
Let’s get it on! New functions and cool options
- Ok, looks like this entire “iPhone situation” is partially solved because now there will be a Packager for iPhone – you can publish ActionScript 3 projects in Adobe Flash Professional to run as applications for iPhone. All applications will be available at Apple store. But it doesn’t mean that iPhone users will browse web content built with Flash technology on iPhone, it just allows repackaging existing content.
- Code Snippets panel is a very useful tool that allows using prebuilt codes that will increase interactivity of your project. This option makes life easier reducing deep learning of ActionScript 3.
- Text Layout Framework (TLF) has new API that promises to make this feature something really interesting. Main features are advanced styling and layout, columns, and threaded text blocks. Sounds like another awesome tool that makes life of Flash developers much easier.
- XML based FLA files – CS5 represents new default file format along with the backward compatibility of old FLA format from CS4.
- Improved ActionScript editor – you will be able to improve the productivity with custom class code hinting and completion.
- Improved Errors Compiler panel will have more informative elements such as various warnings and error icons, ‘next’ and ‘previous’ buttons, improved navigation system and many more.
- Live video preview component will allow the FVL Playback during the authoring. You will also be able to do a lot of different neat stuff with skins – not to mention the changes to the components’ skin that will also be ‘previewable’ immediately on stage.
Among other improvements we should also mention that CS5 Viper will support both ActionScript 3 and Action Script 2 (just like those previous versions that have both ActionScript 3 and ActionScript 2 support). Also developers have improved the Cue Point usability, Color panel, Info panel – all these components will be more functional and user-friendly.
Besides that, the launch of Flash player 10.1 has been announced just recently. The main thing about it (besides that it basically accompanies the the new Flash CS5 launch) is without a doubt the GPU acceleration support, this will surely rock. Besides, this also means that the Full Flash is coming to mobile platforms (not iPhone though), truly great news that make us love Adobe Flash CS5 even before the launch.
